Sydney, Cairns. and Melbourne the Outback Adventure Overview

Gidday Mates!  All of five followers that I have out in cyberland...hehe.  Anyway, its Monday 4th, April 2011 and I am sitting at the YHA hostel in Melbourne.  I can't believe that tomorrow I will have been in Australia for a week.  So much has been happening since I have arrived in this place down unda!  I have trek'd all over Sydney, went to Bondi Beach and got caught in a huge thunder storm.  Definitely, was some "Thunda down Unda"  Also, I went to the Great Barrier Reef and snorkeled with the fishes, that my friends was an amazing experience!  My second day in Cairns I went to an awesome tropical zoo where I saw my friend hold a Koala Bear, we saw some massive crocodiles, wombats, leemer monkeys, a red panda, a cassowary, and fed Kangaroos! We then took the bus further up the road to a place called Palm Cove.

Yesterday, we arrived in Melbourne at 5am and spent the evening at a "Footy" or AFL Game, which is an Australian Rules Football Game.  AGAIN, it was an experience that I will not soon forget.  As we roamed the streets of Melbourne today we visited the Gaols and discovered that prison is no fun whatever country you are in...we strolled through China town and were again price gouged for a bier, but that will be explained in more detailed posts to come.  Tomorrow is my last day in Australia and then I will be traveling on to New Zealand.  Overall this experience has been AWESOME!   There have been ups and downs, but traveling is a great thing because it humbles you and makes you realize the world is such a massive place and to worry about what is happening right in front of you can often cloud the big picture which is that we all are trying to get through life and how we do it is up to each of us, but we aren't alone and there are more people on this crazy ride then we even realise.  Anyway, talk to you all soon and slowing in the next week I will post more details about my travels!  In the words of the great Tigger!  TTFN...TATA FOR NOW!

FAMILY TIMES AT KRISTMAS!

So tonight marked the first Christmas party at the old Sonoma homestead.  I was quickly whisked back to my childhood at the Park Lane where I would slowly retreat into my bedroom and play my Sega Genesis for hours and then quickly appear to stand at attention and say goodnight to our guests.  Now obviously I did not retreat tonight because no I am 31 and that would be preposterous, but the Genesis was replaced with a Galaxy Tab and I have to say that is COOL!  Holidays are very family oriented and sometimes I dread the time with the family rather then look forward to it, but miracles do happen over Christmas and I think tonight was one of those miracles!   So Merry Christmas y'all and have a wonderful New Year!

Tron Lebowski

 GREETINGS PROGRAMS...!

So last night I saw the new Tron Legacy and I have to say...Frakin Awesome!  Visually, the film was stunning, but surprisingly the story was not bad either.  Now this isn't to say I was expecting a Harold and Kumar go to "The Grid" but there was much more depth to both the overall story and the characters.

On many occasions sequels can be quite disappointing, point and case the fourth Indian Jones Installment.  Rocky V, and of course Star Trek Nemesis.  But once and while we get lucky and with Tron Legacy my friends...we were quite lucky!  Like all Disney films this one was no different.  The story was based and focused around the core love and bond that a father and son share with one another.  The writers, however, were witty and in my opinion true fan boys of the original film.

TRON never attained "blockbuster" status and rightfully so...when a film's underlying message is anti-establishment and information should be free and open sourced it doesn't look good if it makes a killing for the studio that produced it.  Luckily, that didn't happen, but what did happen was a revolution and creation of dreams that has manifested itself in many different forms...APPLE Computers please stand up...I find it poetic and ironic that the sequel to a film like TRON is released as the world and especially the US is recovering from the greed and unchecked aggression of the very establishment it was fighting against in the original film.

The Dude definitely abides TRON style in Tron Legacy.  Jeff Bridges does a superb job reprising his role as Kevin Flynn and for all those Lebowski fans he is does not miss a a beat throwing in his dudeisms at appropriate times.  Who would have ever planned for Jeff Bridges to become such a cult icon and embrace the anti-hero we all love and know Jeffery Lebowski.

In short my friends...go see TRON Legacy...I don't care what the critics say...it is a great film that re-kindles the awesome sentiment of anti-establishment and visually reminds us how far ahead of its time TRON really was when it was released.  GO and enjoy the Experience!

END OF LINE...

A long drive

Hey folks,

I am reporting to you from the open road and I must say its a wet ride home this time.  Thanks to my buddy Mike the ride has been smooth, but I must say we are getting way too old to constantly do this drive.  I mean I like to drive with the best of them, especially if I had a 5 speed and the open highway, but when mother nature decides to dump  gallons of H2O all I can say is run, cover and stay put.  Beside, who in hell wants to play road rage with the truckers and the other crazy drivers...not I...not I at all...NO Siree Bob!  Anyway, I have go a wave of water and fog has engulfed the car and like the Pirates of the Caribbean we don't want to end up in Davey's Jone's locker...more to come...Tron Legacy review!

Rainy Day

Today has been a wet day and as I sit sipping tea and trying to keep warm I am reminded how nature can be a wondrous thing. Usually I would be inclined to go out because its friday but today no staying in is the call of the day. Being a person that is constantly go go go...sometimes it is good to just stop and smell the roses as Ferris would say. Enjoy the winter weather and enjoy the down time. Thank you mother nature for the reminder of the importance of a moment.

Family

As I sit here in the wee hours of the morning my mind is drawn to family. Not the kind that is related to you by blood but the kind that you know you can count the long time friend or friends that know you better then you know yourself or the kindred spirt you just met but know you have known one another before... Many times we take our family for granted and forget that it's a privilege to have them in our lives and often we don't thank them enough or not at all for being the rocks we need in tough times or the ears to listen to our neurotic thoughts. I have to say I am lucky because there are people in my life that are my family and even though we didn't have the same mother or father (thank god) they have seen me at my best and my worst and have stood by me. They have told me when I am being an ass and when I am being neurotic. It's my friends who truly are my family and for that I would walk through fire for them! Thank you to those who know who they are and remember in these times of hardships and negativity its the little moments and gestures that count! Happy Holidays!
